Mackeeper is Miles Cohen and his older brother Nick Harwood. For most of their young lives, they thought their tastes were too different to take collaboration seriously. Miles started rock bands, while Nick DJ’d and wrote songs. After spending years individually honing their skills and perspectives, the brothers came together to combine these different approaches. The ever-evolving result is a faintly surreal mix of rock with pop hooks and cheeky sample based production.
Mackeeper’s songs are blissful, nostalgic, and suburban in their themes. Not surprising given that they recorded most of their first songs on the back porch of their childhood home in Maryland. They recall the childlike experience of intense emotions without having tools to understand what they mean. On their debut single, ‘Oh Canada’, Miles desperately sings, voice cracking, about a friend with a drinking problem, “He’s probably fine, all he had was a little red wine”. Childhood stories reevaluated through the lens of adulthood take on different meanings. In Mackeeper’s words, “Growing up is a choice, but a good one.”
Running through it all is the sweet feeling of brotherly connection. A six year age gap between Miles and Nick meant vastly different experiences of childhood and young adulthood. And with Nick in LA and Miles in New York, music keeps them close and listening to their songs allows us to momentarily bask in that bond ourselves.
Since they started releasing music in October 2025, Mackeeper has earned praise from tastemakers including Blood Orange, Kim Petras, and Blackbird Spyplane. ‘Oh Canada’ was named one of Gorilla vs. Bear’s “Top Songs of 2025”, and Mackeeper was highlighted as an “Artist We’re Rooting For in 2026” by The Fader. Their debut EP Rock Candy releases on February 17, 2026.
